Yahoo Sports national MLB insider Russell Dorsey breaks down how pitching could be the deciding factor between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

Video Transcript

This year’s matchup in the World Series between the Yankees and the Dodgers is pretty even across the board.

But the one area where we may see some separation comes with both teams starting pitching while the Yankees have a more traditional model.

The Dodgers have been doing their own thing this year and it’s actually been quite successful.

The Yankees are gonna roll out some variation of Garrett Cole Carlos Rodon, Clark Schmidt and Louise Hill, while the Dodgers are gonna go with Jack Flaherty Yoshinobu Yamamoto Walker Bueller.

And in this postseason, they’ve been using their bullpen as 1/4 starter.

Something that Dave Roberts says they will be doing in the World Series.

Now, a big advantage that the Yankees will have in this World Series is that the Dodgers starter haven’t exactly been consistent while each has had a very good start.

Each has also had a start that they’d like to forget.

And if the Dodgers Series against the Yankees go six or seven games, their bullpen would have to start two of those.

And as the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers learn, the more players start to see that bullpen, the easier it is to start to make some of those adjustments, making it a lot more difficult if things go awry in games 34 and five.

If the Dodgers hope to win the World Series, they’re gonna need their starters to pitch better than they have this entire postseason.

Because similar to their own lineup, the Yankees are rolling right now and if they don’t pitch well, the Bronx Bombers might turn this thing into a route quickly.
