The checkered flag is out for the Daytona 500 to begin the NASCAR Cup Series season.
William Byron won Sunday’s Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway for his second in a row after winning last year’s event. Byron surged to the lead on the backstretch during the final lap and raced back to the checkered flag.
Sunday’s race was delayed by nearly four-and-a-half hours by two rain delays after the race was pushed up an hour of its scheduled start time.
Team Penske teammates Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney won stage 1 and 2, respectively, in Sunday’s race, which had nine cautions.
