Luke Clanton thought Valspar Championship would be first Tour start
Luke Clanton thought his first PGA Tour start would come at this week’s Valspar Championship. Instead, he has his PGA Tour card after a wild year.
For the first time since August 2023, Viktor Hovland won on the PGA Tour, claiming the Valspar Championship on Sunday by one stroke over Justin Thomas.
For his first Tour win in over 570 days, Hovland took home $1.566 million, catapulting up the PGA Tour money list as the top players in the world get ready to take on Texas in the Houston Open.
Hovland moved up 91 spots to No. 29 overall with a total of $1.822,023 this year. Already, 53 players have won over $1 million in just 12 weeks of the season, 23 players are over the $2 million threshold.
The leader remains Rory McIlroy, who has won twice this season, most recently the Players Championship, in which he bagged $4.5 million. McIlroy is $289,938 shy of amassing $100 million in career earnings on the PGA Tour, a club that only features Tiger Woods.
None of the top nine players on the list played in the Valspar Championship, but Thomas jumped eight spots to 10th overall after his second-place finish earned him $948,300.
