Tickets to state golf tournaments in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana have been punched.

Boys and girls golfers in Kentucky competed in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association state first round, Ohio golfers wrapped up their districts in Divisions II and III and Indiana’s girls golfers played regional tournaments.

Ohio’s Division I boys golfers will finish their districts on Oct. 6 at PipeStone with the girls finishing the next day. The three best teams and individuals not on those teams will qualify for the Division I state tournaments.

Here are the local golfers that have qualified for state tournaments (or tournament finals) so far.

Ohio Division II boys state qualifiers

In the Division II district meet on Sept. 30, the Roger Bacon team finished as runner-up, shooting a 308 to champion Alter’s 300. The Spartans were led by sophomore Blake Rohling who shot a 72 to finish tied for medalist honors. Henry Fulwiler, Allister Fike, Ty Dumont and Jude Voss made up the rest of the team behind Rohling.

The finish sent Roger Bacon to state as a team for the first time since 1941.

Indian Hill junior Jacob Lewis shot a 75 to finish tied for fifth overall, but lost to Arcanum’s Luke Stephens in a playoff for the second qualifying spot.

Roger Bacon will compete in the Division II state tournament on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 at NCR Country Club South Course.

Ohio Division III boys state qualifiers

Seven Hills junior Matia Kastner was the only local golfer to play his way to the OHSAA state tournament in Division III. Kastner shot a 73 at PipeStone on Sept. 29, winning medalist honors by two strokes.

Leo Counts of Russia was the other individual qualifier and Botkins and National Trail were the top two teams. Summit Country Day and Seven Hills both had a 332 as a team, finishing in fourth and missing the runner-up spot by just six shots.

The Division III state tournament will be on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 at NorthStar Golf Club.

Ohio Division II girls state qualifiers

At PipeStone Golf Club on Oct. 1, Madeira and Fenwick had the two team qualifying spots locked up easily, but had a battle for the championship. At the end of the round, Madeira, including individual medalist Ellie Hartung’s 69, took the title over Fenwick by a shot 332-333.

Behind Hartung in the standings was fellow sophomore Sophia Fink of CHCA. Fink shot a 71 and was the first individual qualifier to the Division II state tournament. Mariemont senior Charlotte Soller, who placed third overall, had a 77 to also qualify for state.

Fenwick was led by senior Emma Lohman who placed fourth with a 78.

The Division II state tournament will be on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 at Heatherwoode Golf Club.

Northern Kentucky girls golf state final qualifiers

The girls got the state started with the locals golfing at Pendleton Hills on Sept. 29 in the KHSAA state first round. Qualifiers from Regions 5-8 competed at Pendleton Hills.

Sacred Heart, Owen County and Mercy Academy finished in the top three team spots to qualify for the state finals. Ryle was fourth with a score of 378, missing third place by 19 shots with Notre Dame behind them with a 393.

Five locals qualified as individuals. Notre Dame’s Maria Penaranda led with an 83, finishing tied for 10th overall. Tatjana Andracenko of Dixie Heights shot an 84, Anika Okuda of Ryle shot an 85, Reese Anthony of St. Henry shot an 86 and Sarah Smith of Grant County shot an 89 to qualify for the state finals at Bowling Green Country Club on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8.

Northern Kentucky boys golf state final qualifiers

The Northern Kentucky boys followed the girls at Pendleton Hills on Oct. 1.

As a team, Ryle shot a 304, finishing in second overall behind Louisville St. Xavier’s 299 and qualifying for state.

Ryle’s Hayden Li led the Raiders with a 74, tied for fifth overall while Paxton McKelvey and Thomas Leone were also top 10 with a 75, both tying for ninth.

Covington Catholic was tied for fourth with Central Hardin by shooting a 314, three strokes behind Christian Academy of Louisville for the third state qualifying spot. Newport Central Catholic was eighth with a 364.

Five more golfers qualified individually. Covington Catholic’s Brady Pagnotto was tied for fifth overall with Li, shooting a two-over-par 74. Pagnotto’s teammate Joseph Mangine qualified with a 76, Walton-Verona’s Adam Gutman had a 78 and Parker Isaacs of St. Henry and Jace Hammons of Beechwood both shot a 79 to advance to the state finals.

The KHSAA boys state finals will be on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 at Bowling Green.

Indiana girls golf state qualifiers

East Central senior Rowan Pies will be golfing in the Indiana High School Athletic Association golf state tournament for the third time.

The senior, who finished in a seventh-place tie in last year’s IHSAA state tournament and was tied for 14th in 2023, shot a 73 at the regional tournament at The Legends Golf Club on Sept. 27.

Pies was regional runner-up by one stroke behind Batesville’s Ava South one week after winning the sectional tournament by a shot ahead of South. South placed fifth in last year’s state tournament, two shots ahead of Pies.

The IHSAA state tournament will be on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4 at Prairie View Golf Club.
