Venus Williams once again proved age is just a number as she continued her US Open 2025 journey. The 45-year-old may have suffered an early exit in the singles tournament, but in doubles, a game of skill rather than brutal physicality, she is still holding strong.
Her partnership with Canadian star Leylah Fernandez has brought the spotlight back on doubles. The high-profile team knocked out No 12 seeds Ekaterina Alexandrova and Zhang Shuai, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals.
This will be Williams’s first women’s doubles quarterfinals at a major since the 2014 US Open. Williams-Fernandez are now set for a showdown against top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova.
Townsend already made waves in the singles draw, knocking out Jelena Ostapenko and fifth seed Mirra Andreeva before falling in the Round of 16. But doubles is her domain, and she will be raring to go against the iconic Williams.
