The world’s best golfers head to Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England for the 154th edition of The Open Championship.

Scottie Scheffler arrives at Royal Birkdale looking to successfully defend the Claret Jug, but will face tough competition from the likes of Rory McIlroy and English duo Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood among the 156 contenders.
Known for its intimidating sand dunes that line the low-lying fairways, it’s a course that rewards cautious play and has seen some of the very best win here; Peter Thomson (twice), Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Johnny Miller, Tom Watson and Jordan Spieth.
The club has hosted 10 Open Championships — the last of which was in 2017 — and has also hosted six Women’s Opens, and Ryder Cups.

When is the Open Championship?
The first tee-off of this year’s Open Championship golf is set for 1:35 a.m. ET on Thursday, July 16, with second round play set to begin at the same time Friday.
Play in the final two rounds usually begins around 3 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
