Gallegos (21-2-1) was coming off a loss against Diego Pacheco in December 2023 when he fought Coe (9-1-1) sixteen months later. Coe was starting to build momentum until he got taken out via a ninth-round stoppage. He also got knocked down several times in the fight.
Local light heavyweight gold is on the line as Gallegos attempts to go 2-0 against Coe. The Mexican fighter will have home-field advantage, while Coe looks to recover after suffering the first setback of his career.
Meanwhile, before he faces Naoya Inoue in September, Murodjon Akhmadaliev competes against Luis Castillo. Akhmadaliev (13-1) is a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist and former IBF and WBA super bantamweight champion. He won the interim WBA title in December and has called out Inoue multiple times.
Nothing will stop Akhmadaliev from facing Inoue in a super fight before the year ends if he wins. He must get past Castillo (31-6), 2-2 in his last four fights. He has 20 wins via knockout but hasn’t competed since 2023.
