After a lot of preseason buzz, No. 19 Missouri has gotten off to a shaky start this season, but it is still within reach of a College Football Playoff spot. With Auburn coming to town, Missouri needs to assert itself as one of the better programs in the SEC.
After getting shelled by Texas A&M, Missouri needed a get-right game, and it got one against UMass last weekend. Mizzou went up to Amherst and blew out the Minutemen, 45-3. Brady Cook looked more like himself with 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 19 passing attempts, and the offense totaled 231 rushing yards and four scores on the ground.
The big question now is whether Missouri can keep this rhythm rolling against an Auburn team that’s winless in conference play so far.
Auburn rolls into Columbia having lost three straight games, and its most recent outing was a 31-13 loss to rival Georgia. The offense has underwhelmed for much of the season, and quarterback Payton Thorne has connected on just 59.7% of his passes for 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.
If Auburn is going to upset Missouri, it may have to ride Jarquez Hunter, who has broken off some big runs in 2024. Hunter has 528 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 78 carries, so he has been one of the few bright spots for the Auburn offense.
