Drama is building at the 2025 Masters Tournament as Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose tied after 72 holes at Augusta National Golf Club. The winner of the prestigious green jacket will come down to sudden death.
Rory McIlroy (-11) tied Justin Rose (-11) after bogeying the 18th hole on Sunday.
When there’s a tie at the top of the leaderboard, the Masters tournament moves to a sudden-death playoff. Just how does the playoff work? We got you covered.
Masters playoff format
The sudden-death playoff will start on hole No. 18. The golfer to card the lowest amount of strokes on the hole will win the Masters tournament and the green jacket.
If both players finish with the same number of strokes on No. 18, then the golfers will move to a sudden-death playoff on hole No. 10. If there is still a tie after hole No. 10, then the golfers will go back to hole No. 18 and continue alternation between No. 18 and No. 10 until a winner is determined.
This playoff format at Augusta National is similar to how ties at PGA Tour events are decided.
