West Palm Beach’s Hampton Beebe wins 109th Florida Amateur title

Less than a week after caddying for a friend who qualified for the U.S. Open, West Palm Beach’s Hampton Beebe punched his own ticket to a United States national championship.

Beebe won Florida’s 109th Amateur Championship on Sunday, June 14 at The Dye Preserve and The Club at Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter, earning a spot in the 2026 U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania from Aug. 10-16.

On June 8, Beebe was on the bag for Royal Palm Beach’s Giuseppe Puebla during “Golf’s Longest Day” at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens. Puebla tied for first in the 36-hole qualifier to earn a place in the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, set for June 18-21.

More local golf: Royal Palm Beach’s Giuseppe Puebla qualifies for U.S. Open

Beebe even appeared alongside Puebla on Golf Channel during the post-round interview, with Puebla later crediting his friend for helping him through the grind of qualifying.

Three days later, Beebe was on the hunt for his own national championship berth.

An Auburn signee and reigning FHSAA state champion from Dwyer High School, Beebe shot 6-under across 72 holes, the only player in the field to shoot par or better in all four rounds.

He opened with a tournament-best 3-under 68 at Admiral’s Cove to position himself near the top of the leaderboard, then held steady over the final three rounds at The Dye Preserve. Beebe outlasted a tightly packed field, maintaining consistency as challengers fell back on a difficult final day.

Florida’s Amateur Championship, first hosted in 1915, is the state’s oldest continuous sporting event. Former champions include 1976 U.S. Open winner Jerry Pate.

Florida’s 109th Amateur Championship featured a number of Palm Beach County golfers who fared well over the four-day event. Here’s a look at some of those who made the cut:
