Tyler Reddick is in the Championship 4 of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs thanks to a last-lap pass to win Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead.

Reddick surged from third to first in about a lap-and-a-half, passing Denny Hamlin before speeding past then-leader Ryan Blaney on the top groove through Turns 3 and 4 to head to the checkered flag.

Reddick had a tall task in trying to make up points in the Round of 8 after last week’s crash at Las Vegas. But he won Stage 1, then stayed near the front for the majority of the race.

He also had some fortune in strategy, staying out until inside of 20 laps to go on older tires. When Reddick pitted with 15 laps to go, he got new tires that paid off once Kyle Larson brought out the caution with 13 laps to go via a spin.

Reddick restarted in the lead with virtually new tires but slipped back to 4th on the restart behind Blaney, Hamlin and Chase Elliott. Reddick passed Elliott, then reeled in the top two before the last-lap heroics.
