Gary Woodland picked a bad time to look like one of us.

Woodland cold-topped his tee shot at the 436-yard, par 4 ninth hole at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis on Sunday in the final round of the BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Woodland was making a run at the lead, having carded three birdies on the front nine to trim Wyndham Clark’s lead to one when he tried to hit a stinger off the tee with a fairway wood but topped it 97 yards into a creek that “has never been in play, any tournament they’ve ever had here,” said Jim Nantz.

Woodland was 14 under at the time but with his tee shot proved costly as he made a double-bogey six.
