Viktor Hovland overtook Scottie Scheffler on Saturday at the Travelers Championship as he climbed to the top of the leaderboard with a round of 64.

Hovland has looked much more like his old self this week at the Travelers, and anyone who loves watching golf will be delighted to see the Norwegian back to his best.

Scheffler led the tournament after shooting a 60 on Friday, but the American’s round of 67 on Saturday gave Hovland a chance to overtake him.

And Viktor Hovland did not hesitate to do exactly that, as he made seven birdies and a solitary bogey at TPC River Highlands.

Scottie Scheffler will obviously still be a very tough man to beat on Sunday at the Travelers Championship, but Hovland’s game seems to be in perfect working order.

Scheffler now trails Hovland by one stroke at the Travelers heading into the final round on Sunday, so the tournament is perfectly poised.

Viktor Hovland admits how he finds Scottie Scheffler as a playing partner

The Norwegian responded when asked what he makes of Scheffler as a playing partner.

Yeah, Scottie and I have played a lot, and I’d like to think of most of the guys in this field, we are professionals, and it shouldn’t matter too much who we play with, but it does matter a little bit, he admitted.

We have a good rapport, and I think we both have a lot of respect for each other’s games.

When he hits a good shot, I try to hit a good shot, and there’s mutual respect.

We say, Good shot, to each other. I think it’s a really good vibe.

Hovland says whether anyone else aside from Scheffler can win the Travelers

Hovland was asked by reporters whether he will be trying to fly out the blocks on Sunday and start off with his foot firmly down on the accelerator.

Yeah, and I think that’s kind of the beauty of this golf course, Hovland said.

You know, I think Scottie and I have separated ourselves from the rest of the field, but at the same time, you know, 14- or 15-under is still very much in this thing if they go and shoot a very low score tomorrow.

So we still have to go out there and, you know, play very similar to what we did today. Otherwise, we’re bringing in a lot more guys.

Sunday at the Travelers should be a fascinating round of golf to watch, as Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler do battle in the final group.

As the man from Norway said, though, someone in the chasing pack is bound to start going low early on in their round.

It will all depend on whether Hovland or Scheffler give anyone else a chance.
