The veteran big man is looking for another shot in the NBA, and he has a team in mind. On Kevin Garnett’s podcast, All the Smoke, Howard made his pitch to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“OKC, your boy is ready,” he said. “What’s happening? Y’all need a big. Y’all need somebody that’s going to bring some energy. I ain’t got nothing to do neither, I just got finished dancing. Me and (Alex Caruso) together, championship. I’m just saying, we did it before. Y’all already got a superstar, y’all just need somebody who know how to play defense. That’s certified.”
Oklahoma City is dealing with some early-season injury woes in the front court as Chet Holmgren, Isiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams are all currently sidelined.
The 38-year-old Howard has not played since the 2021-22 season when he put up 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent one season in 2022-23 playing with the Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League in Taiwan.
Howard, once an unstoppable force in his prime, likely wouldn’t be a huge difference-maker for the Thunder, but as he said, he could bring some energy and experience to the young team.
