Just when many expected changes in Barcelona’s goalkeeping department this summer, one experienced figure appears ready to continue playing an important role behind the scenes.
In that sense, veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has decided that he wants to remain at the club for at least another season, even if it means accepting a secondary role.

As per Tot Costa, the experienced Polish shot-stopper has already communicated his intentions to Barcelona’s management.
The club was eager to keep him around due to the influence he has inside the dressing room, and Szczesny has now responded positively to that proposal.
A strong dressing room presence
Rather than pushing for guaranteed minutes, the former Juventus and Arsenal goalkeeper is said to be fully prepared to serve as backup to Joan Garcia next season.
At this stage of his career, regular starts are no longer viewed as essential by the veteran goalkeeper, who recently rejected a proposal from a La Liga club.

Instead, Barcelona value what he offers away from the pitch just as much as his performances on it.

What has also stood out is Szczesny’s professionalism throughout the season. Despite previously stepping in as the starting goalkeeper, he had no issues moving aside once Joan Garcia regained fitness.
Barcelona’s coaching staff are believed to have appreciated the way he handled the situation without creating any tension.
His relationship with Joan Garcia has also been positive from the beginning, as Szczesny has acted as a supportive senior figure for the younger goalkeeper.

Now fully settled in Spain once again, both the player and his family feel comfortable with life in Barcelona.
That stability has made the idea of extending his stay an easy decision for the experienced goalkeeper.
If everything proceeds as expected, Szczesny will now continue at Barcelona until 2027, giving Flick another reliable and respected figure inside the dressing room.
