The United States of America has often been heralded as “The Land of Opportunity.” Now the U.S. Open is giving tennis pros an opportunity to make the most money of any Grand Slam in history.
The New York-based tournament announced on Wednesday they are increasing the total purse of the event to $90 million. Last year’s purse, worth $75 million, was the previous record-high total in tennis history.
The U.S. Open announced it will distribute the additional $15 million across different round for singles and doubles players on both the men’s and women’s brackets.
Champions will see 39% increase, going from $3.6 million grand prize in 2024 to a $5 million payout in 2025.
The Open also increased prize money for doubles significantly to incentivize more participation. Winning duos will receive $4.78 million which is up 23% from $3.89 million in 2024. It’s the first time in tennis history that winning teams from men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles will receive over $1 million in prize money.
