Well. That was interesting.

Denny Hamlin spun out his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Ty Gibbs, on Lap 111 at the NASCAR New Hampshire race on Sept. 21. Gibbs, who is the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs, had come down on Hamlin entering a corner.

Hamlin, who had been racing Gibbs for position over the last couple laps, didn’t give his teammate room and clipped his left rear. That spun Gibbs out and put him up on the wall.

Hamlin is currently in the NASCAR playoffs’ Round of 12 entering the Mobil 1 301 race in New Hampshire. Ty Gibbs did not qualify for the postseason.

Hamlin was questioning the younger Gibbs decision to not step aside and let Hamlin pull away during the laps leading up to the accident because of Hamlin’s playoff position.

Gibbs though, remained racing for position.

Three Joe Gibbs Racing drivers — Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe and Hamlin — reached the NASCAR playoffs and won races in the opening round of the postseason.
