The New England Patriots are riding high after Sunday night’s 23-20 upset win over the Buffalo Bills, but they received some bad news on Monday.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Patriots running back Antonio Gibson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL early in the game against the Bills.
Gibson’s absence will undoubtedly create more touches for rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson, who has been a fantasy football disappointment this season. Through the first five games of the year, the 2025 second-round pick has produced 121 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries while adding 15 catches for 90 yards.
Per Fantasy Pros, Henderson is rostered in 93 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues and 88 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues, so managers who were bold enough to hold onto him could benefit in the near future. The only time he recorded double-digit fantasy points was when he scored his first career touchdown in a Week 4 win over the Carolina Panthers.
Henderson should have more opportunities to produce for the Patriots, who improved to 3-2 after their dramatic win over the previously undefeated Bills.
New England should continue to explore Henderson’s skills in the passing attack, as his 15 receptions rank third on the team. The Ohio State product could become the fantasy star he was projected to be as he continues to develop in his first year in the NFL.
Managers who rostered Henderson could look to sell high based on his potential, as he could be a trade piece to acquire a player with a more solidified role. Those in need of help at the running back position could be desperate enough to give up a strong player for the chance to add him.
