Things not going to plan for Trent in Madrid
Last season was a write-off owing to problems with Trent’s form and fitness.
The situation deteriorated to such an extent that the 15-time European champions saw fit to sign Denzel Dumfries in a summer deal from Inter Milan.
Jose Mourinho has preferred the Dutchman at right-back so far this campaign – leaving Alexander-Arnold with his nose pressed against the glass.
Now it’s being claimed in the Spanish media that Alexander-Arnold is looking for a way out of the Bernabeu and Liverpool is on the horizon as a potential destination.

“The player’s continued benching has caused discontent among those close to him, who have asked his representatives to expedite offers to leave the Spanish capital before September 1st,” the report reads.
“Real Madrid’s board has not ruled out negotiating a formal transfer in these final days of the transfer window if the financial offer meets the demands set by the club’s hierarchy.
“Liverpool’s coaching staff, led by Andoni Iraola, are considering the immediate return of the defender to compete for the right-back position with Jeremie Frimpong and provide rotation in midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

“The Real Madrid and Liverpool boards will hold intensive talks over the next 48 hours.
“The Madrid club’s executives will finalize the official transfer fee imminently to determine whether to accept a written offer before the summer transfer window closes.”

Liverpool have been struggling for solutions at right-back since Trent left. A new contract was given to Conor Bradley but the Northern Irishman is dealing with significant injury problems.
Jeremie Frimpong has had injury trouble of his own and is by no means a natural at the position. Midfielders have been tried there instead with Ronald Araujo coming into the club as a combined right-back / centre-back option over the summer.
