One cannot claim a lack of self-confidence by top UFC contender Arman Tsarukyan.
In fact, the UFC lightweight believes he could handle one of the all-time greats in former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“It’s probably a decision,” Tsarukyan said in an interview with Hassan Yosufi (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “My skills (are my biggest edge). I’m more well-rounded than him.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov retired undefeated and as UFC champion
Retired since 2020, Nurmagomedov concluded his MMA career with a perfect 29-0 record, including submission wins over former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.
Nurmagomedov could have continued competing, but opted to leave the sport on top. He is now a coach for several MMA fighters along with taking on other business ventures.
Arman Tsarukyan ranks as one of top UFC lightweight contenders
The 29-year-old Tsarukyan has been impressive since a 2022 loss to Mateusz Gamrot, reeling off five consecutive wins. That includes a 2024 split decision over Charles Oliveira in a title-eliminator.
Since that bout, Oliveira has gone on to claim the “BMF” title. Tsarukyan, meanwhile, bested Dan Hooker this past November via submission to improve to 23-3 overall.
Tsarukyan has also stayed active competing for RAF, earning two wins over Georgio Poullas and one vs. Lance Palmer this year. He also won a submission grappling exchange with Muhammad Mokaev this past March.
