This new push cart brings walking to the next level

There’s a host of good reasons why walking during your round of golf beats riding in a cart.

First, it’s a far more social experience. Walking brings continued conversation with all members of your group, not just the person with whom you’re sharing a cart.

Everyone knows about the health benefits of walking. You’re sure to hit your 10,000 steps per day goal over the course of your round. It’s also definitively the best way to take in a golf course. At my local course, Lochmere Golf Club in North Carolina, tee times and cart fees are both $40. When walking, it’s the best deal I’ve found in golf. The course is in great shape for that price, and it’s got some fun holes. But to pay $80 for the same course is just … less exciting.

So naturally, with all that money you’re saving by walking, you should invest in saving your back and shoulders, too. Push carts are the best of both worlds, taking the bag off your body and putting it on wheels.

The Speed Cart X from Sun Mountain is the best one I’ve used yet. It’s a high performance push cart from a high-quality brand.

After several months of use, mine is still in great shape. It rolls well over smooth or bumpy terrain, handling elevation change without issue. As easy as it is to unfold it and put my bag on, it’s just as quick to pack it back up again to store in the car.

I really prefer the hand-activated parking brake over the design of most other push carts, where you’re negotiating a small brake pad with your feet. Sun Mountain push carts also have the strongest breaks I’ve seen, so if I’m hitting a shot from the top of a hill, I have full confidence it’ll stay where I leave it.

But the little details are really where Sun Mountain’s new model stands out. There’s more storage compared to its original model, the V1R. The Speed Cart X has an adjustable umbrella holder, strong cup holder big enough for a wide water bottle, and a magnetic mount that I’ve used for speakers, divot tools and ball markers.

It looks sleek, it’s a breeze to use, and helps me bring everything I need out to the course. It’s really like having all the convenience of a golf cart, combined with the additional enjoyment and exercise of walking.
