With the Taycan Turbo GT, Porsche wanted to make the fastest road-going EV. It’s got a number of lap records to prove its potency, and a little over a month ago, it added another to its collection. Porsche factory driver Felipe Nasr ran a 1:42.1 in a Taycan Turbo GT at Brazil’s Interlagos circuit, a record for a production EV.

For some context, the fastest gas-powered road car around Interlagos is a 911 GT2 RS equipped with a Manthey Racing handling kit. That car set a 1:36.967 late last year. But Porsche also notes that a regular 911 Turbo S set a 1:43.087 around the track, and the old Taycan Turbo S did a 1:49.8 back in 2022. When you consider the Taycan Turbo GT’s near-5,000-pound weight, it’s a damn impressive lap time.

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT – New Lap Record at Interlagos (full lap)

Of course having Nasr behind the wheel helps. Just over a week earlier, he was part of the Porsche team that won the Daytona 24 Hours overall in a 963 GTP car.

And the Taycan Turbo GT brings a lot to the table. When you pull the right-hand steering wheel paddle, you get 1,019 horsepower for 10 seconds, which helps on the straights. The Turbo GT also sports super sticky Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo RS tires, and Porsche’s nifty Active Ride suspension system, which does an incredible job working all four tires at all times. You can hear it on the video, tires squealing constantly under the immense load, and without an internal-combustion engine to mask their sound. This particular model has the Weissach Package, which adds a rear wing and deletes the rear seat for weight savings.

The Taycan Turbo GT also has the road-car EV lap record at Laguna Seca, and a record for production four-doors at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe. Even with this new record, you can bet Porsche wants to add to its collection.
