The Match is back, and it will have no shortage of star power from the world of sports and beyond.
TNT Sports announced Thursday that it will broadcast The Match: Superstars as a special two-night event on Thursday, Nov. 21 and Friday, Nov. 22. It will air on TNT and Max in primetime and feature plenty of superstars.
Bill Murray, Mark Wahlberg, Charles Barkley, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Phelps, Nate Bargatze, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Blake Griffin will all hit the links at Breakers West Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, while Ernie Johnson will serve as the host.
Barkley and 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman will provide commentary, while two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson will join Kathryn Tappen as on-course correspondents and reporters.
Barkley is no stranger to The Match, as this will be his ninth appearance at the event. He is sure to bring his typical style of humor and his, let’s say, questionable golf skills, which may be a problem for Griffey.
After all, the competition format will start off with two matches of 2 v. 2 scramble with Griffey and Barkley teaming up to face Murray and Gretzky. The other match will pit Bargatze and Griffin together against Wahlberg and Phelps.
Those who advance to semifinals and finals will participate in individual match play to determine the champion.
In addition to the coverage on TNT and Max, Bleacher Report and House of Highlights will provide social and digital content that will feature The Broadcast Boys, Fat Perez and Joey Cold Cuts.
The coverage will include the cart cam viewers of The Match are familiar with, as well as drone cameras and the competitors interacting with each other via open mics throughout the matches.
There is always a charitable angle with The Match, and this edition will be no different. It has already donated 27 million meals to Feeding America and raised more than $41 million for various organizations, and this year’s contributions will be donated to hurricane relief efforts.
