The Texans got off to a slow start in Wednesday’s game against the Ravens, but the defense and special teams have provided them with some life in the second quarter.

Punter Tommy Townsend dropped a 70-yard punt at the Ravens’ 3-yard-line and cornerback Kamari Lassiter dropped Ravens running back Derrick Henry for a safety on the next play. Dameon Pierce returned the ensuing free kick near midfield and the Texans moved into Baltimore territory for the first time on a 16-yard catch by wide receiver Robert Woods.

Wide receiver John Metchie moved them to the Ravens’ 30-yard-line with another catch on third down and head coach DeMeco Ryans passed on a field goal to try a deep shot for Woods down the sideline. Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey was flagged for a 20-yard pass interference penalty on the play, but the Texans couldn’t punch it in on their first three tries.

Ryans went for it again and running back Joe Mixon was stopped at the 1-yard-line, so the Ravens remain up 10-2 late in the second quarter.

Ravens cornerback Nate Wiggins was being evaluated for a concussion during the Texans’ drive, so his status is something to watch.
