Tensions were already high heading into the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. At Wednesday’s press conference, the time for talking was over.

Over the course of several press conferences over the last few months, each of which felt like circus shows, Tyson, 58, has been around influencers nonstop, and he has faced questions on his age and his health. The latter especially has come under scrutiny after an ulcer flareup in May forced him to enter the hospital and postpone the matchup with Paul.

On Wednesday, though, Tyson seemed cool, calm, and collected as he attempts to make Paul knockout number 45 of his career.

Tyson has shown ferocity heading into the fight. He’s talked about unleashing the beast — or the devil — within. He even attempted to get in Paul’s head by outlining the difference between the two of them.

“There’s a fundamental difference between me and Jake,” Tyson said in the pre-fight documentary. “He’s a manufactured killer. Television and papers made him a killer. He’s manufactured. I’m a natural-born killer. That’s the difference.”

That did not appear at the press conference, however. Tyson appeared over the whole ordeal and seemed to just want to get in the ring. His words Wednesday boiled down to this: “I’m just ready.”

Tyson appeared agitated when someone asked him about the possibility of losing the fight. He emphatically told the reporters, Paul and maybe even himself:  “I’m not going to lose.”

Meanwhile, Paul addressed Tyson, saying he wanted that old, savage Mike, and no excuses. The 27-year-old wore diamond-spiked ear covers — saying the accessories were so Tyson wouldn’t bite his ear, as he famously did Evander Holyfield’s.

Try as he might, though, nothing seemed to get through Tyson’s skin.

With Tyson unwilling to rise to the bait, and vice versa, Paul challenged those who favored Tyson over him. The bets involved include property in India, $1 million, a ring and his own purse.

“He’s going to look good on the canvas when I’m standing over him,” Paul said.

After all of the pageantry, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are ready to fight under the bright lights of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Can Tyson fulfill his promise, or will Paul put on a show to remember?
