At the media day for the Galleri Classic earlier this month, 18-time PGA Tour Champions winner Steve Stricker talked about issues he was having with a disc in his back and how it was being treated. As it turns out, that bad back will keep Stricker from playing in the Galleri Classic this week in Rancho Mirage.

Stricker officially withdrew from the Coachela Valley’s senior event over the weekend. While Stricker has played in just one of the five PGA Tour Champions events this year, the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship in January, he was expected to try to play in Rancho Mirage. Stricker is an ambassador for Grail, which developed the Galleri multicancer blood test.

Stricker has played well in the tournament at Mission Hills Country Club the first two years of the event, tying for sixth in 2023 and tying for fifth in 2024. The 2020 U.S. Ryder Cup captain won six PGA Tour Champions events in 2023, winning the Charles Schwab Cup points race.

Stricker is replaced in the field of the 78-player Galleri Classic field by first alternate Steve Allan. The tournament features two one-day pro-ams Wednesday and Thursday followed by the $2.2 million 54-hole tournament Friday through Sunday. Also withdrawing over the weekend was Scott Verplank, replaced by alternate Charlie Wi.
