The Pittsburgh Steelers have had an active offseason. Back in March, they added several notable external free agents, including Sebastian Joseph-Day, Jamel Dean, Jaquan Brisker, Rico Dowdle, and traded for Michael Pittman.
Even with all of that added talent, though, Noah Strackbein of All Steelers believes Pittsburgh should make one more notable move, urging Pittsburgh to sign former Dallas Cowboys safety Donavan Wilson.

“Donovan Wilson spent five years with head coach Mike McCarthy in Dallas. He started nearly every game he played in while recording six interceptions, 14 pass deflections, eight forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 13 sacks and 17 tackles for loss,” Strackbein writes. “ That’s a good stat line for any player a team would be considering, but add the relationship with the head coach and that he’s coming off a full 17-game season as a starter, Wilson is the ideal candidate for Pittsburgh.”
The Steelers added safety Darnell Savage, but as Strackbein points out, he simply isn’t good enough if one of Jaquan Brisker or DeShon Elliott were to miss time.
“It took Savage nearly three months to finally sign his contract with the Steelers after agreeing to it in March,” Strackbein writes. “Whatever red flags he needed to get taken care of seemed to take longer than expected, and if that’s any indication for the season, it’s a sign to go get backup.”
Wilson was a sixth-round draft pick of the Cowboys back in 2019, and played under Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy from 2020-24. He has eight career interceptions, nine forced fumbles, and a surprising 13 sacks.
