The 2026 league year begins on March 11th, which is when teams can officially sign free agents and make trades. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most active teams in both markets over the last two offseasons, making blockbuster trades for Justin Fields and DK Metcalf while sending away Kenny Pickett, Diontae Johnson, and George Pickens.
It’s free agency that is the primary focus today for ESPN’s Matt Bowen, though, as he ranked the top 50 free agents and named their best landing spot. Bowen named the Steelers the best landing spot for Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker.

“In Pittsburgh, Brisker would replace Kyle Dugger under new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham,” Bowen writes. “Brisker can play over the top in Cover 2, and he would be a disruptive box defender in Graham’s single-high schemes. In four seasons with the Bears, Brisker recorded 4 interceptions, 7 sacks, and 14 pass breakups. The Steelers could also target a cornerback in free agency as they try to clean up the secondary.”
On top of his coverage ability, Brisker is one of the most versatile safeties in the NFL. In four seasons, he had 342 tackles, 12 of which were for loss. Considering the only two safeties under contract in 2026 for the Steelers are DeShon Elliott and Sebastian Castro, Pittsburgh will certainly be in the market at the position.
