Wembanyama, in the second quarter of the Spurs’ wild Game 1 win over the Thunder on Monday night at the Paycom Center, caught a lob in the middle of the lane. While barely even leaving the ground, Wembanyama managed to grab it, move the to his left and throw down the one-handed dunk between Gilgeous-Alexander and Holmgren with ease. Just watch:
The slow-motion angle from underneath the rim, which included Wembanyama’s celebration, was even better.
But the photos that came out from the dunk, including one that Getty Images’ Zach Beeker took from under the rim, may have been the best part.
Wembanyama entered the locker room at halftime with a double-double already secured. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first 24 minutes and shot 6 of 11 from the field.

Wembanyama and the Spurs ended up needing double overtime to put the Thunder away. San Antonio finally secured a 122-115 win, thanks to 41 points and 24 rebounds from Wembanyama. It marked just the seventh 40-20 game in a conference finals or later in NBA history. Wembanyama had several huge plays down the stretch, including another dunk through Holmgren and a logo 3-pointer — though Holmgren did block Wembanyama at the end of regulation.
That initial dunk won’t be the only one that Wembanyama claims the rest of the way this postseason. But regardless of how the series turns out, Wembanyama clearly came to play.
