Six members of the Palm Desert High School boys’ golf team advanced from a CIF-Southern Section preliminary event Monday and will compete for a CIF-SS individual title next week.

Luke Ringkamp of Palm Desert led the local golfers in the field with a 2-under 72 on the par-74 South Course at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. Also finishing in the top 20 of the 135-player field were teammates Landon Breisch with a 73, Austin Woods with a 74, Caden Breisch with a 74, Max Margolis with a 75 and Joshua Householder with a 75.

Those six players will advance to the CIF-SS individual finals May 22 at Temecula Creek Inn, the same site and the same day of the CIF-SS team qualifying tournament. That is a step toward the CIF state championship for both teams and individuals.

Luke Bohmer of Linfield Christian was medalist at the Los Serranos preliminary event with a 67, followed by Brady Fonville of Apple Valley at 70 and Ringkamp at 72. Ringkamp’s round included five birdies, one bogey and one double bogey.

Among the golfers from the Desert Empire League who did not make the cut of 20 players at 75 were Trent Hamilton of Xavier Prep (76), Benton Sullivan of Xavier Prep (77), Leo Lanza of Xavier Prep (79), Cash Tompoles of Palm Desert (80) and Preston Hoffman of La Quinta (82).

Four golfers from the Desert Valley League made the preliminary but did not advance. They were Ben Carlton of Yucca Valley (86), Blake Morrison of Yucca Valley (93), Adrian Tamayo of Yucca Valley (97) and Elijah Guerrero of Twentynine Palms (99).
