As a vice-captain at this year’s Solheim Cup, Caroline Hedwall will be very pleased if one of Europe’s players manages to match her record and become only the second person to ever finish 5-0 at the event.
Hedwall never won on the LPGA Tour, while she only managed to register one top 10 finish in a major championship.

Nevertheless, she was a key part of five European Solheim Cup teams. She was on the winning side on three occasions, while Hedwall also played on the 2023 side that retained the trophy after a 14-14 tie at Finca Cortesin.
But it was a decade earlier that Hedwall made Solheim Cup history.

The 2013 Solheim Cup proved to be significant for a number of reasons.
Europe secured their first ever victory on American soil, while it was also the very first time that they had retained the trophy.
The 18-10 scoreline remains the largest winning margin in the event’s history.

Meanwhile, Anna Nordqvist – Europe’s 2026 captain – became the first player to make a hole in one in the Solheim Cup in Colorado.

Elsewhere, Charley Hull announced her arrival as a superstar, with the then 17-year-old beating Paula Creamer 5&4 in the Sunday singles.
Fittingly, it was Hedwall who ensured that Europe retained the cup with her 1up victory over Michelle Wie in match five on the final day.
Hedwall and Nordqvist won both of their matches together in the foursomes, while she formed a similarly formidable partnership with Caroline Masson in the fourballs.

What made Hedwall’s performance all the more impressive was that the Swede was the only player on either side to play all five matches across the event.

She had actually needed a captain’s pick to even make the team. But captain Liselotte Neumann was certainly vindicated for selecting her.
Despite going on to play in three more Solheim Cups, Hedwall would actually only appear one more time in the foursomes, losing 5&4 alongside Nordqvist two years later in Germany.
And while her form has dropped off over the last decade, she did manage to make a vital impact in what looks set to be her final ever Solheim Cup match.
She was three down after 12 holes of her singles match with Ally Ewing in 2023. However, Hedwall managed to turn the match around and win 2up as Europe secured the tie that ensured that they held onto the trophy for another year.
Their task in the Netherlands will be to win it back.
