Scottie Scheffler’s Behavior at PGA Tour Event Catches Attention originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler finds himself five strokes off the lead after Day 1 at the Memorial Tournament. Held at Muirfield Village Golf Club, the event is a PGA Tour staple, taking place each year on the weekend following Memorial Day.
Scheffler remains in contention as he fine-tunes his game for the upcoming US Open in mid-June: the 28-year-old kept a clean card during his opening round.
But it wasn’t his golf that made headlines.
On Thursday evening, the PGA Tour shared a moment on social media between Scheffler and a young fan named Wyatt. The clip quickly gained traction online.
“So wholesome. This moment between Scottie and Wyatt will make you smile.”

Fans praised Scheffler’s gesture, applauding his kindness and presence off the course.
“Doing it big for the people,” this fan reacted.
Another fan appreciated the gesture: “Top pros like Scottie taking time to engage with the fans, especially the young ones, is massive for the sport. That’s how you build the next generation. Class Act Scottie.”
This fan was excited to see it: “MY GLORIOUS GOAT!”
Others appreciated Wyatt’s manners just as much:
“What a polite child, awesome,” responded here.
Of course, not everyone was impressed.
“Totally ignored that dude behind the kid.”
Another chimed in with criticism from a previous event:
“Scottie trying to save face after his pathetic fan showmanship during his victory. What an inconsiderate professional. Let’s ignore the fans and hang out with wife and kid for 20 minutes. Not even a wave of handshake to the fans Mr. golfer? Wow.”
Scheffler will be closely watched as the season’s last two majors approach. After winning the PGA Championship, he’s now just two titles away from completing the Career Grand Slam. To do that, he’ll need to capture both the US Open and the Open Championship.
This month also marked a personal milestone. Scheffler and his wife celebrated their son’s first birthday. That joyful moment of his birth came just days before his highly publicized arrest in Louisville ahead of Day 2 at the 2024 PGA Championship. He was later released, and all charges were dropped.
Ben Griffin leads the Memorial after shooting 7-under in the opening round. Collin Morikawa sits second at -5, with Max Homa in third at -4. Scheffler remains within striking distance as the tournament heads into the weekend.
