Scottie Scheffler lifted the BMW Championship trophy Sunday after starting the fourth round four shots behind, thanks to some consistent play and errors from third-round leader Robert MacIntyre.

He finished the tournament with a score of 15-under, two shots ahead of MacIntyre. His sights are now set toward this week’s Tour Championship, the final round of the FedExCup Playoffs.

But Scheffler’s effect isn’t limited to just golf. His personality is bringing in new fans to the world of golf. NBC, the official broadcaster of the tournament, saw a massive rise of about 1 million new viewers.

Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal reports, “Golf viewership from Sunday: NBC draws 3.5M for the final round of the BMW Championship (Scheffler). That’s up 43% from 2.5M last year for Keegan Bradley. Prior two years were 3.0M (Hovland on CBS) and 2.8M (Cantlay on NBC).”

In comparison, LIV’s final round broadcast by Fox raked in just 426,000. That’s a massive fan following for the PGA.

The final round saw the highest viewership in the last four years. “For the weekend, NBC drew 3.0M viewers, up 41% from last year. Golf Channel’s early round coverage: 502,000 (+19%). Saturday and Sunday lead-ins: 885,000 (+84%)” Carpenter wrote on X.

LIV, on the other hand, failed to cross even half a million in viewership. So it’s not just the sport, Scheffler is generating massive profits for the media houses. Such a trend was observed in all of his tournaments this season.

He is the closest anyone has ever come to matching Tiger Woods. In fact, he is the first person after Woods to cross the 20 in average Official World Golf Ranking points (21.23).

The difference between him and Rory McIlroy, who is No. 2, is almost 10 average points. It’s the same differential McIlroy holds over the No. 119 player. Scheffler is writing history.
