It’s been almost a year since a vendor employee working at the 2024 PGA Championship died after being struck by a shuttle bus near Valhalla Golf Club.

Scottie Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 golfer, was arrested by Louisville Metro Police while he attempted to enter the golf club May 17 after the fatal accident involving pedestrian John Mills.

Scheffler faced charges of second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic, but they were later dropped after criticisms of LMPD’s handling of the arrest.

Scheffler’s arrest is in the spotlight again as the focal point of episode three, “Don’t Call it a Comeback,” of the new season of the Netflix docuseries “Full Swing,” which premiered Tuesday.

“I was freaking out because I somehow went from driving into the golf course, to a jail cell and I still don’t really know how that happened exactly,” Scheffler said in the docuseries. “I don’t think it ever really felt real.”

Some of Scheffler’s friends and colleagues featured in the episode were golfers, Justin Thomas, Tom Kim, Rickie Fowler, Joel Dahmen and Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott. The general response to hearing about the news of his arrest was to think it was fake, most were in disbelief.

After his release from police custody, Scheffler carded a 5-under-par 66 during the second round, which moved him to 9 under and into the top five on the PGA Championship leaderboard.

Xander Schauffele won the PGA Championship and his first major, carding 21 under, which set a major championship record for the lowest 72-hole score.

Scheffler finished tied for eighth place at 13-under-par.
