The Buffalo Sabres snapped their 13-game winless streak in an outstanding fashion last night, defeating the New York Islanders by a 7-1 final score. It was a great night for the Sabres, and they will now look to build off it from here.

However, while the Sabres finally got back in the win column, it is apparent that they have some serious issues to address if they hope to turn things around in the near future.
When looking at Buffalo’s roster, there are two specific needs that they should look to improve through the trade market. Those are adding a top-six winger and a right-shot, top-four defenseman.
It is no secret that the Sabres have tried to acquire a top-six winger for quite some time, but a deal has not come to fruition. However, there is no question that they could use another one to help their offense.
The Sabres have also tried to improve the right side of their defense. They were notably in the mix for Jacob Trouba before he was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks. Thus, it is fair to wonder if they will target right-shot defensemen with term nearing the deadline.
Nevertheless, seeing what the Sabres do from here until the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline will be very interesting. Changes are needed, and it would be huge if they improved these two areas on their roster.
