Royals vs Padres, July 19 game discussion

The Royals have won their first two games out of the All-Star Break. They will look to sweep the scuffling San Diego Padres this afternoon, with Noah Cameron on the bump.

In his last outing before the break, Cameron went 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, 5 runs, striking out 9, but allowing 3 homers to the Orioles. His last two starts have been solid for him, as he will look to build on that today.

It’ll be a different looking lineup today for the Royals. All three catchers will be in the lineup, with Carter Jensen DH’ing, Luke Maile behind the plate and Salvador Perez playing first. Bobby Witt Jr., who has been struggling the last 7 games also sits, Tyler Tolbert will play shortstop. Nick Loftin slides to second, Josh Rojas steps in at third, giving Michael Massey a day off.

As for the Padres, they come into today’s game 48-50 on the season, 3.5 games back of the final NL Wild Card spot. Righty German Marquez will start for them today. Marquez, the longtime Colorado Rockie, and first year Padre, is having a decent year, after he spent time on the IL with forearm problems.

In 9 appearances, 8 starts, Marquez has a 5.18 ERA in 41.2 innings. He went 4 innings, allowing 3 runs to the Blue Jays in his last start before the All-Star Break.
