A tip of the cap this week to Aubre Walker.
The 2026 Anderson High School graduate – with honors, by the way – was last seen by me on the soccer field last fall tending goal for the Indians.
She is now attending Purdue – Indianapolis and is studying motorsports engineering and this week, she is participating in test days at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She will be doing so with professional driver and engineer Sabre Cook and will represent just her latest opportunity to work behind the scenes and get hands-on training in the motorsports industry.

Over the summer, she completed a General Motors fellowship with Hendricks Motorsports in North Carolina, similar to one she completed back in 2024 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
She has been featured in the Women Driving Change in Motorsports newsletter and podcast as a Della Penna Scholar with NXG Youth Motorsports.
She has appeared in our pages many times as a local racing figure.
Earlier this year, she was awarded the Anderson Soap Box Derby Scholarship at the Anderson Black Expo luncheon and, two years ago, Andy Knight wrote about her first visit to the IMS Museum and her early idols in the sport, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace.

“They have this drive that doesn’t ever stop,” she told Knight. “They race (Formula One), NASCAR, and I want to do that. It’s something that’s really interesting to me to try to follow in their footsteps in the best way that I can to do what I want to do.”
As both a female and a minority, she has certainly been told – or at least hinted at – that motorsports may not be the career for her. Since falling in love with auto racing at an early age, she has shown remarkable resiliency in forging a path forward, step by step, on her way to a future she will love.

In case you missed it, Wednesday’s Arabian Roundup/Madison County Championship meet at Pendleton Heights was postponed due to lightning in the area. That make-up date has yet to be determined.

It was disappointing as I was really looking forward to an expectedly competitive battle for first place in both the boys and girls races. I’ll just have to wait for the highly anticipated Jack Combs vs. Connor Weflen and Sarah Combs vs. Maddie Marsh races that could be two of the big highlights of the fall. I would also love to see all four advance to the state meet later, but that’s still a ways down the road.
