Liverpool are reportedly advancing on a deal for an exciting winger.

It feels a little bit strange to say this given the depth in options at the moment but the Reds may need to add one or more attacker to Arne Slot’s list of options.

Diogo Jota: Thank you

But the reality is that a lot of Liverpool’s current attackers face uncertain futures at the club. Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa could both leave. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz is a player in demand and looks open to a move away from Anfield.

What the future holds for the trio will determine just how much the Reds need to invest in their attacking options.

Even without any departures, Liverpool have always wanted to add another striker to their ranks. Although, if any of the trio do leave the club, the reality is that Richard Hughes may be looking to add another offensive player, too.

And there might be an obvious candidate who Liverpool are leading the chase for.

When it comes to the list of forward targets, Liverpool will be looking at Alexander Isak as the club’s dream option. However, he won’t be the only player who the Reds will keep their eyes on.

Benjamin Sesko or Hugo Ekitike could emerge on the club’s radar as well. Meanwhile in the left-wing department a lot of the conversation has centred around Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon.

However, a more realistic option might be Malick Fofana. The winger is well-liked by Liverpool and he is at Lyon who are struggling financially at the moment and were almost relegated to Ligue 2 due to their financial situation.

Now a recent report from RMC Sport has written about Marseille’s interest in the winger. The report claims that Marseille indeed want to sign Fofana, but he is unlikely to end-up at Lyon’s French rivals.

That’s because Liverpool are leading the race for his signature alongside Bayern Munich.

As per the report, Fofana is valued at €30m by Transfermarkt, although he could cost the Reds a little bit more than that.

He may not be as established as Rodrygo or Gordon, but Fofana could be a brilliant long-term investment and he definitely suits the way Slot wants to play.

Fofana is explosive, he’s very good at one vs one situations and his acceleration makes him a huge threat going forward.

At 20-years-old he can be moulded into what ever Slot wishes him to be. The best thing about Fofana is that he’s comfortable with both of his feet, which means he can play on either flank.

Sometimes in his younger years he’s even played centrally, so he would give Slot a lot of options.

That’s why this is a transfer to keep an eye on. Although for now everything hinges on departures.
