Liverpool could sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer. He’s ready to transform the side.

Liverpool’s attack was fantastic last season, with few teams coping against them. This time around? The opposite.

The Reds have struggled badly to threaten opponents, relying too heavily on set-pieces of opposition mistakes for chances. A lot of that is down to the makeup of the attack – not something we’d blame on individuals.

Liverpool have essentially zero pace in their attack. Lots of good players but no one capable of consistently driving in behind or at defenders.

Last season they had that – Mohamed Salah was in better form, Luis Diaz, Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota…

But it’s been absent this time around. It’s something they simply must fix and if they do, there’s no question that the rest of Liverpool’s attack will improve.

Teams can’t push up the pitch as much. They can’t pack the middle of the pitch and leave the wings free. Pace forces defences to manage space with a lot more care.

It’s why Liverpool targeting Anthony Gordon makes so much sense. The Scouser is electric, one of the fastest top-level wingers around, on top of being someone who knows how to play with Alexander Isak.

That’s a potentially transformative signing. Florian Plettenberg claims Liverpool have been informed about his availability in the upcoming transfer window.

It’s exactly the kind of signing they should be making.

As of 8 May 2026, Anthony Gordon remains a central figure for Newcastle United, despite a challenging league campaign for the club. The 25-year-old winger has recorded 18 goals across all competitions this season, including 10 during an impressive Champions League run. In the Premier League, he has contributed six goals and two assists over 26 appearances (1,814 minutes), maintaining an average FotMob rating of 6.96. Gordon was an unused substitute in Newcastle’s 3–1 win over Brighton on 2 May, having recently returned from a hip injury.

Transfer Speculation

Gordon is heavily linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer. Bayern Munich have reportedly opened formal talks and presented a “concrete” five-year contract offer. Arsenal also hold strong interest, while Liverpool—who previously moved for him in 2024—continue to monitor the situation. Newcastle reportedly value the England international at over £75 million.

A regular in the England setup, Gordon has earned 11 caps. He is widely expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup this June.
