The Los Angeles Rams concluded their preseason game slate with a 2o-18 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. All eyes now turn to the 53-man roster as decisions need to be made by Sunday, August 30th. After weeks of training camp practices and three preseason games, Sean McVay and the Rams’ coaching staff now have to make some difficult decisions as they trim the roster down.
Several players who appeared to be on the roster bubble have already done enough to secure their spots. Quarterback Stetson Bennett and running back Ronnie Rivers are among the notable players who have made the initial 53-man roster. Both entered the final stretch of the preseason with some uncertainty surrounding their status.

Bennett’s roster spot became particularly interesting because of the competition at backup quarterback. The Rams selected Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, creating a legitimate competition between the rookie and Bennett behind Matthew Stafford. McVay had not publicly settled the backup job heading into the preseason finale, but Bennett’s experience in the offense and preseason performances ultimately helped him remain in the mix.
Rivers also faced a legitimate roster battle in a crowded running back room. While players such as Kyren Williams and Blake Corum were viewed as locks, Rivers had to compete with younger backs for a roster spot. His special teams and return-game value helped separate him from the competition.
Now, attention turns toward the players who won’t make the final cut.
The Rams are required to reduce their roster to 53 players, meaning several players who spent the offseason competing for a job will soon be looking for their next opportunity. Some could eventually return to Los Angeles on the practice squad, while others could be claimed or signed by another team.
