Ryan Gerard may never have a day on the PGA Tour that compares to what he did in the opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge — at least when it comes to putting.

He fired a 6 under par 64 in the opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge and that allowed to sit in a tie for first place with Andrew Putnam. Both Gerard and Putnam were playing in near perfect conditions at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas as the first round of the tournament was played in 87-degree weather.

However, the round was special for Gerard because he was basically perfect on the putting greens. He had 17 putts of 15 feet or less and he found the bottom of the cup on all of them.

The 26-year-old from Raleigh, NC is attempting to win his second PGA Tour victory. He has been fairly competitive this season as he has finished in the Top 25 of four of the 15 events he has played this year. He has also made the cut 13 times.

Gerard started his round on the back nine and while he opened with a bogey on the par-4 10th, he was able to birdie the following hole. He was able to birdie the 14th and 15th holes as well, as he made the turn at 2 under par.

He followed with birdies on holes 1, 2 and 3, and after a bogey on No. 6, he birdied the 7th and 9th holes to close his round.

Putnam’s round saw the golfer play bogey-free golf. He birdied the 13th and 16th holes, and then added four more birdies on the second, third, sixth and ninth holes.
