A 33-time winner on the professional golf circuit, Adam Scott has experienced his fair share of highs and lows. From being ranked number one overall in the world to winning the 2013 Masters, the Australian has proven to be one of the world’s best golfers. Unfortunately, Scott made a very rare blunder during the first round of the PGA Tour’s latest event, the Cadillac Championship. According to the PGA Tour’s official communications page on X (formerly Twitter), Scott was assessed a two-stroke penalty for playing the wrong ball on hole eight.

“Adam Scott was assessed a two-stroke penalty during the first round of the Cadillac Championship for a breach of Rule 6.3c (wrong ball) that occurred on hole No. 8,” shared the tour’s comms page.
The double bogey on the par-five eighth was a big reason why Scott finished four over par in Thursday’s opening round. Instead of at least paring the hole, the two-stroke penalty gave Scott the double. To that point, the Aussie was at even par, trading birdies at the second and fifth holes for bogeys at the fourth and seventh.
However, after the penalty on eight, Scott couldn’t capitalize. The 45-year-old parred the next eight holes. It looked as if he had stabilized his round. Yet, Scott closed the day with consecutive bogeys at 17 and 18, finishing with a 76. This year has been one of Scott’s toughest on the PGA Tour since he turned pro in 2000. His best finish was fourth at the Genesis Invitational back in February. Outside of that, a tie for 11th at Bay Hill two weeks later is the highlight of his 2026 campaign. Can Scott turn not only his Cadillac Championship performance around, but his season as well? If so, a Scott renaissance could be a major highlight for the PGA Tour in 2026.
