PGA Tour Golfer Doesn’t Hesitate With Clear Message on Viral US Open Moment originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

JJ Spaun pulled off a storybook finish at the 2025 U.S. Open, draining a 65-foot birdie putt on the final hole at Oakmont to secure his first major title. Battling tough conditions and a stacked leaderboard, Spaun’s incredible shot sealed the victory at one-under-par and etched his name into golf history.

Finishing just behind him was Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre, who had every reason to believe his final-round 68 in the rain might be enough. After starting seven shots off the lead, MacIntyre clawed his way to a one-over-par clubhouse lead, showing grit and precision despite a 100-minute weather delay.

As Spaun’s winning putt dropped, cameras captured MacIntyre’s reaction from the scorer’s room, a quiet clap followed by a single word: Wow.” It was a moment of pure class from the Scotsman, whose sportsmanship didn’t go unnoticed.

Speaking after the event, MacIntyre made it clear there were no hard feelings about missing out on a major title. “He won the golf tournament,” he said. “I mean, he’s dreamed of it. I’ve dreamed of it. Everyone’s dreamed of that moment… For him to pour in the winning putt, nothing I can do. Fair play.”

MacIntyre also reflected on his own performance with pride per Mirror: “The back nine was just all about fighting… Today was a day that I said to myself, ‘Why not? Why not it be me today?’”

Though the trophy went to Spaun, MacIntyre’s composure and honesty won plenty of respect. His clear message: no bitterness, just admiration for a champion’s moment.
