Pete Alonso is one step closer to Darryl Strawberry’s Mets home run record.

Alonso opened the scoring in Saturday afternoon's victory over the Giants by crushing a 1-2 fastball from right-hander Kai-Wei Teng for a no-doubt three-run shot.

The blast left the bat at a whopping 109.4 mph and carried 428 feet to left-center.

It also marked another milestone for Alonso, as he is now up to 250 homers for his career, leaving him just three away from passing Strawberry as the Mets' all-time home run leader.

"I'm proud of him, that's not an easy number to reach there," Carlos Mendoza said.

"It felt really special," Alonso added. "I was honestly just really happy to help the team there especially in the first inning, I thought that set the tone really well for the offense for the rest of the game."

Alonso becomes the 23rd active player to reach the 250 home run mark.

He also joins Ralph Kiner, Albert Pujols, Ryan Howard, and Eddie Matthews as the only players in league history with 250+ long balls over their first seven big-league seasons.

"Pete's good, Pete's great, he's one of the best power hitters in the game," Lindor said. "Home runs for him, he makes them look easy, so I'm happy for him and excited to continue watching him."

"He's had such an amazing career here with so many more milestones ahead," Nimmo added. "I'm so happy for him to reach that mark, and he did it in typical Pete fashion with a no-doubter in a big moment for us."

This continues a good stretch for Alonso as he looks to fight his way out of his recent slump.

The slugger has now reached base safely a total of five times over the first two games of this weekend set against the Giants with a pair of clutch homers and five runs driven in.

"I feel like I'm in a really good place right now," Alonso said. "I honestly feel like I've been in a good place, I just want to keep taking good swings on good pitches and capitalize on my opportunities to help the team win."
