Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that James Madison safety Jacob Thomas is going to be a Green Bay Packers pre-draft visitor. Generally, visitors have a much higher rate of being added to the Packers than non-visitors, be it via the draft, undrafted free agency or later down the line.

Thomas is currently ranked the 370th overall prospect on the consensus draft board, meaning that he’s being projected to be an undrafted free agent, but sometimes players in Thomas’ range end up coming off the board in the final two rounds of the draft, too.

The Packers usually carry five safeties, one of which they lost this offseason when Zayne Anderson signed with the Miami Dolphins, but they also didn’t play cornerbacks very frequently on special teams, either. With the addition of cornerback Benjamin St-Juste, a special teams ace, it’s possible that Green Bay only keeps four — Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, Javon Bullard and Kitan Oladapo — at the position in 2026. If they, for some reason, want to keep five, though, a player like Thomas could be a cheap way to push the likes of Jonathan Baldwin, Jaylin Simpson or Mark Perry for a roster spot.

Thomas was originally recruited to play for James Madison during the Curt Cignetti era, but he never ended up transferring up to Indiana like a lot of his former teammates did. Instead, he developed into a three-year starter and two-year all-conference safety with the Bulldogs.

Per Silverstein, the non-combine invite weight in at 215 pounds at his pro day and ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash.
