The Green Bay Packers are re-signing edge defender Brenton Cox Jr., who was set to be a restricted free agent, to a one-year, $2.5 million contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This is the third restricted free agent that the Packers have re-signed to below the minimum $3.5 million first right of refusal tender.
Previously, Green Bay re-signed sixth offensive lineman Darian Kinnard, who signed a $2.75 million deal with up to $1 million in incentives, and running back Chris Brooks, who signed a two-year deal worth up to $4.85 million total. It’s been reported that the Packers have elected to decline the tender options of running back Emanuel Wilson and safety Zayne Anderson, too.

The only restricted free agents we haven’t heard from yet are defensive end Arron Mosby, tight end Josh Whyle and nose tackle Jonathan Ford. Both Mosby and Whyle were brought up from the practice squad in-season, while Ford was poached at the end of the year. Meanwhile, Kinnard, Brooks and Cox were on Green Bay’s 53-man roster, or injury lists, throughout all of the 2025 campaign.
Cox coming back makes sense, since the Packers have lost both Rashan Gary and Kingsley Enagbare this offseason. With Micah Parsons, Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Collin Oliver and now Cox under contract for 2026, it will be interesting to see if Green Bay believes they have space on the 53-man roster to add another notable body at the position, be it in the cap casualty market or the draft market.
