In the midst of another tough season for the Ottawa Senators (so far), a little Sens nostalgia is always welcome.

Through a clever social media post, the Senators posted a video of Dany Heatley making the announcement he would be in town on Dec. 5 for a reunion of the famous Pizza Line with Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson.

In a recent episode of the Missin’ Curfew podcast, Heatley teased that he would be in Ottawa next month, but didn’t say why. That led to speculation that perhaps he or Jason Spezza may be added to the club’s Ring of Honour. With 687 points in 686 games as a Senator, Spezza might even be a candidate for a jersey retirement.

The club hasn’t said whether anything official might happen beyond the reunion.

The Pizza Line is generally regarded as the best line in franchise history, leading the club to their only Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2007, with all three men finishing tied as the NHL playoff scoring leaders that year. Heatley is still the only Ottawa Senator to score 50 goals in a season, doing it in that season and the one before.

They were called The Pizza Line because of a promotion with a national pizza chain. Any home game where the Senators scored 5 goals, paying fans could cash in their ticket for a free pizza slice. The boys often made sure the fans were fed.

Heatley is now a pro scout for the Philadelphia Flyers, Spezza is the assistant GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and of course, Alfredsson is an assistant coach with the Sens.
