Real Madrid have started their UEFA Champions League campaign on a strong note, securing back-to-back victories over Marseille and Kairat Almaty.

Up next for Xabi Alonso & co. in Europe will be a tougher challenge, though, as they take on Italian giants Juventus in a week’s time.

Real Madrid host the Bianconeri at the Santiago Bernabeu on 22 October, in what will be their second match after the international break, only days before facing Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the season.

No Gleison Bremer for Juventus

However, leading up to the game, Juventus have lost one of their key players to injury as Defensa Central reports that Gleison Bremer has been ruled out of the Real Madrid clash.

The Brazilian defender, who had returned from a lengthy spell out on the sidelines due to an ACL injury not very long ago, has undergone surgery for a meniscus tear in his left knee, Juve announced earlier today.

“This morning Gleison Bremer underwent selective arthroscopic meniscectomy of the medial meniscus of his left knee,” the statement read.

“The footballer will begin the rehabilitation process aimed at resuming competitive activity in the next few days.”

Juventus have not specified how long the player will be sidelined, though recovery from such an injury is expected to be slow, depending upon the severity.

For reference, Barcelona’s Gavi has been sidelined after undergoing arthroscopic surgery for five months while his teammate Joan Garcia, who also underwent a similar procedure, is expected to be out for five weeks. Both will miss the Clasico this month.

Bremer, too, will be unavailable for Juventus when they travel to Madrid in a week’s time, which will come as a blow for the Italian giants.
