Barcelona have officially confirmed that Robert Lewandowski has sustained an injury to the ‘semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh’, which he picked up during the team’s victory over Celta Vigo.
The club’s medical statement explained that his recovery will depend on how his body responds to treatment, but the outlook for the immediate future is not promising.
“The tests carried out this Sunday have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski has suffered an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh.
“His return to team dynamics will be decided based on his progress,” read a statement from the club.
Matches Lewandowski will miss
With the severity of the injury now clear, the Polish striker is almost certain to miss at least three weeks of action, starting with their La Liga clash against Mallorca, followed by another important league outing against Valladolid.

More significantly, Lewandowski is ruled out of both the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and the crucial first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Inter Milan on April 30.
There is, however, a slim chance that Lewandowski could be fit for the return leg of the Champions League semi-final on May 6.
But even then, he would be arriving with minimal preparation and at considerable risk, meaning Hansi Flick and the medical team will need to assess the situation cautiously.
Lewandowski’s injury comes at a difficult time for both the player and the club.
The veteran forward had been struggling to find his best form, scoring just two goals in his last six matches, both of which came in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Borussia Dortmund.
The silver lining for Barça, though, is that the team has managed exceptionally well in Lewandowski’s absence this season. They have played three matches without him across all competitions and won all three, scoring five goals in each.
Looking further ahead, Barcelona remain hopeful that Lewandowski can return in time for the final stretch of the season, which includes a potential Champions League final in Munich on May 31.
