Grant Roscich had 14 birdies this weekend at the Sunnehanna Amateur, but none were more important than the final one.

The rising junior at North Carolina made birdie on the final hole Saturday at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to win the 85th Sunnehanna Amateur by a shot. Roscich was in a three-way tie with Jake Birdwell and Gabriel Palacios, who fired a 63 in the final round, when he teed off on the closing par 4, but he poured in the birdie putt and gave an emphatic fist pump after claiming one of the first major amateur events of the summer.

Roscich was one of six players to shoot in the 60s all three rounds, but he led wire-to-wire in the first Elite Amateur Series event of the summer. As a sophomore at North Carolina, he finished the year ranked 94th in the NCAA golf rankings and had a best finish of second in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.

The second event of the Elite Amateur Series, the Northeast Amateur, is set for June 24-27 at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island.
